Autumn Harvest: Fall Between the Pages Fall Blog Hop Tour

Hi!  My name is Minnie and I’m the owner of the Lilac Bower bed and breakfast. I’m so glad you stopped by on the Autumn Harvest: Fall Between the Pages Fall Blog Hop. I’m honored to welcome you to Joselyn Vaughn’s blog.

First off, we have plenty of attractive young men here.  You don’t happen to be single, do you? If you are, my friends and I can fix you up. We've got plenty of nephews and sons between us. And if I do say so myself, we are very good at this.  Just don't listen to anything Mark says.

As I said before, I own a bed and breakfast.  It’s the best place to stay in town.  It’s in a big old house with a wrap-around porch and plenty  of room in the back yard for a pumpkin patch. Its romantic and eclectic atmosphere makes it appealing to everyone.  If you’re nice, I’ll even let you examine my porcelain cat collection.

I love autumn. It’s my favorite season.  Unfortunately it’s also a really slow season for business at the B & B. Everyone goes farther north for the color tours and that leaves me a bit tight for spending money. My nephew Mark tells me I need a new roof next spring and I need to raise some funds.

Well, this year I have a plan. I’m calling it Hauntings of the Heart.  I’m going to turn the Lilac Bower into a haunted house.  You know, like an actual house that’s haunted. Not with people dressed up as vampires and such. Creaky doors. Shuffling noises in the walls. Footsteps in the attic. Strange mists. Cold spots. (Note to self – get the password for the A/C system from Mark.) I’ve got one of those creepy sounds CD’s and my friend Edith is going to help. So if you want to stay in a haunted house, this is the place for you.

So if you could help me out and spread the word about the haunted house (and the attractive young men :-)); I’d love to be all booked up for October. I’ve got eight suites, so there’s plenty of room for your friends.

To see how my project is going, you can friend Joselyn on Facebook or follow her on Twitter. I'm hoping for lots of good news.

You can read about some of my other adventures in CEOs Don’t Cry and Sucker for a Hot Rod.  Have a great tour on the blog hop.  I gotta go.  I can hear something dripping upstairs (and I don't have any guests).

Oh, before I forget.  You have to sign up for this CONTEST!!!  Well, you don't have to, but why wouldn't you? The winner gets a selection of Bath and Body Works lotions. Sweet Saturday Samples

He couldn’t wait to get Judi out of his garage and out of his truck. How was he supposed to concentrate when she hung around his garage with that swaying ponytail?

Ponytails always revved his imagination. His fingers itched to tug the elastic out and watch her hair tumble down around her face.

He had no idea what he had done in the twenty minutes since her car arrived in his garage. He’d been concentrating on not staring at her or ticking her off.

“You know her?” Judi asked.Bryce peered over his shoulder at the retreating waitress. Is he checking her out, Judi thought, or trying to remember? He’d probably recognize her more easily if he was looking at her face.“It’s a small town,” he said. “I come here a lot.”

Back from vacation

We're back from vacation and trying to get our life sorted out.  Most everything is put away.  The laundry is washed, but there are eight baskets of it to put away. How did we go through so much clothes?  And I did laundry while we were on vacation.

We took our usual trip to Nisswa, MN to visit Grandma and Grandpa.  The kids had a blast swimming in the lake and playing with all the treasures Grandma had found at garage sales for them.  My son learned to cast a fishing pole and caught his first fish.  It was one of those moments when you can't wait to tell someone something and then you remember that they have passed on. My dad would have loved it. My daughter played tea party with her cousin and danced to Johnny Cash music in the park and the Little One is a dare-devil on the slide off the dock. I got a lot of reading done: Dangerous to Know by Nell Dixon, Lifeline Echoes by Kay Springsteen, and two-thirds of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.  I also got a chance to write.  It's amazing how much you can get done when there isn't an Internet connection readily available.  The worst part of vacation was that I was sick with a cold the entire time. At least it didn't stop me from enjoying the sun.  I have tan lines from my swimsuit for the first time in years.

In other news, Astraea Press is having a sale through the end of the week.  Sucker for a Hot Rod is available for $1.99.  You can't beat that!

Hope you all have a great week.

Sucker for a Hot Rod now in print

Sucker for a Hot Rod is now available in trade paperback from CreateSpace.

I was so excited to receive the print copies that I almost accosted the UPS man when he pulled up at the house next to mine. I was on my way to my writing group and had just been wondering whether my copies would come that day or the next. He did indeed have a box for me and asked if I wanted it right then.  Well, of course, I did!  I even carried it half-way across town to show my writing group. Luckily we live in a small town so it was only about two blocks.

It looks absolutely wonderful.  I would post a picture, but my camera battery is dead again. It seems like it is dead every time I try to use it.  Perhaps I should charge it more often.

Happy reading!

Six Sentence Sunday

Spark plug wires were still connected to the engine. She followed one of the blue spark plug wires to whatever they went to. Bryce hadn’t explained that one to her. The other end of the wire wasn’t connected to anything. Neither were the other five.

That probably wasn’t good.

Six Sentence Sunday

“Dennis’ll be a happy man. Say, he said you’ve been asking about that old Pinto he’s got parked in his barn. What would you want with that hunk of junk? You’ve got a truck.”

Bryce closed the access panel on the tractor and tightened the wingnuts. “I was thinking it might be a good figure-‐‑eight car.”

Six Sentence Sunday

Judi leaned back against the tarped car and watched him work.

“Don’t touch that.” Bryce pointed at her, but didn’t look up.

Judi stood up straight. “What’s under here?” She tugged at the cover and glimpsed a sliver of gray primer
paint. “Are you restoring a car?”

Six Sentence Sunday

Bryce waved the torque wrench, then swung it at the Ford. It bounced off the quarter panel, leaving a dent in the fender he’d spent a week pounding and smoothing to perfection. The vibration ricocheted up his arm. He swung again. And again. The car screamed, pulled at his arms, trying to hold him off, but he couldn’t stop. The frustration had to get out. He hit metal, glass. The door frame, a side mirror, the windshield.

Six Sentence Sunday

His fingers shook.
“Judi Montgomery, will you marry me?” He opened the box and a square cut diamond winked at her against the cushioned white satin.
“What?” She hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but it slipped out. This was a bit more than an oil filter.

Car Problems

My first car was a doozy.  It looked fairly good, but everything seemed to go wrong on it.  The radiator, the brakes.  An axle broke.  The windshield wipers flew off the windshield during a rain storm on the highway. Then the head gasket blew. I limped it fifteen miles to the mechanic's because I couldn't reach anyone from the pay phone. I doubt there was any oil left in the engine after this. Once that was fixed, I had it back for less than a month and was rear-ended.  The car was totalled.

My husband is a gear-head, so I don't have to worry about this stuff anymore.  He takes care of it.  Anything related to the cars and garage is his responsibility. (I believe washing windows and vacuuming is included in this. He washes the windows and vacuums out the cars, why not the house too?)

Cars seem to have their share of headaches.  What headaches has your vehicle caused you?

Six Sentence Sunday

Judi bit her lip hard to keep from giggling as Big Jim cowered against the shed door. Before the urge left her, Big Jim stood up and brushed the dust off his “father of the quarterback” sweatshirt.
“Little buggers leap like that – they probably have rabies.”  He panted. “You sure he didn’t bite you?”
Judi displayed her unpunctured palm. “I think I’m okay.”
