The Big Snow

Yes, we got dumped on.  Not nearly as bad as most of the Midwest, but we have over a foot of snow.  The fence is about 4 feet high, but we have been shoveling the snow from the driveway over it.

The sidewalk in front of our house had been plowed.  There were twelve inch banks on either side.  Now with the blowing and drifting, it is difficult to tell where the sidewalk is.  The mail carrier attempted to trudge through it and turned around after ten feet.  I don't blame her.  I can't even see the front stairs.

The piles of wood in the back yard leftover from cutting down the trees are covered in snow.  The plastic tubs of  plush toys I put outside after Christmas to freeze the dust mites are buried.  I had three stacked and I can no longer see the bottom two.

This morning the snow was drifted against the back door and my husband had to use the dust pan to clear enough away so that the dogs could go outside.  He cleared off the top of the steps, but the dogs weren't adventurous-enough to travel down the steps until noon.  They carved a path the width of their bodies to the bottom of the stairs and turned around.  The snow on either side is taller than they are.

The highlight of the kids' morning was watching the tractor come and plow out the driveway.

  2. It's been piling up a couple inches at a time since Christmas. This is the biggest one time snow we've had in a while though.
