Today is National Authors' Day and the kickoff to NaNoWriMo.
NaNoWriMo stands for 'National Novel Writing Month.' People attempt to write a 50,000 word novel between November 1 and November 30. It averages to about 1500 words a day and some furious typing. It sounds like great fun, but requires a lot of time and dedication.
I have not yet participated in the event, but hope to sometime. Giving birth to children in October isn't conducive to writing a novel in November. Maybe next year.
Is anyone participating in NaNoWriWriMo? And who are you favorite authors?
Hi Joselyn, this is my 7th year of Nano! Only proves that I'm insane, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite authors? Hemingway, Shakespeare, Marilynne Robinson, John Irving, John Jakes, Joyce Carol Oates, Mark Twain...
7 years?! That's awesome. Good luck this year.
ReplyDeleteI love reading people's lists of favorite authors. I always look at them and go 'oh yeah, I forgot about him or her.' I really like Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson. I heard her speak a few years ago. Very interesting.
I'm not participating in Nano this year, but I did try it for two years. In fact Sunshine Boulevard, coming out in March, is a result of one of the Nanos. I never reached 50000 words in the challenge, but it's fun to try. Then find a great writers group to help you sort it all out like I did!!
