Why must the transition from diapers to underpants be so traumatic and messy?
I've spent the last two days trying to convince the twins that the potties are not going to bite them when they sit down. I'm hoping by Saturday we will be able to try underwear. A previous underwear trial resulted in five large puddles before breakfast and I hadn't gotten enough sleep the previous night to soldier through that.
So far, I've convinced them to sit on the potties in exchange for treats. (Gotta use up that parade candy somehow. :-)) Monday, we managed two mostly successful attempts. One ended up in the potty and one on top of and beside the potty. I think we are making progress.
What are your potty training success stories (no nightmares please!)?
Sounds like I'm going to have my work cut out for me in a few years, when I tackle potty training. Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteI used a little tough love with Luke. I simply started one Monday morning after changing a smelly diaper, and decided that I didn't want to do it anymore. Luke had turned 3 the month before, and I had seen the signs and was sure that he was ready. Prior to this, he had never peed on demand or in a toilet. I showed him the potty, the underwear and let him go. He had a couple of accidents, but was trained by Wednesday! Luke really dislikes being wet, so I think that helped alot.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I think we mom's have to talk ourselves into it, I think that Luke was ready before I was!
Cassie, you give me hope. I agree that we have to talk ourselves into it. Diapers just seem like so much less work than sitting in the bathroom for twenty minutes every hour.
ReplyDeleteMary, with twins I think we do have the advantage of peer pressure. One will want to do what the other does. They can egg each other on.
